In 1996 Baz Luhrmann directed a Pulp Fiction-like movie version of Romeo & Juliet. Now it appears this will be published in Blu-ray (details still sketchy). My son says it's too hyperactive to go on this site; but I say we will cover it, because it's Shakespeare. But we will wait to post until we learn a bit more about this.
It appears DG will soon release a DVD and a Blu-ray HDVD of Anne-Sophie Mutter playing Bhahms violin sonatas. But there is mass confusion among the vendors. We have seen 3 different pictures of covers, and the product descriptions by the vendors are don't appear to be reliable. For example, MDT appears to be offering the Blu-ray version for less than $18.00. Don't believe it---that's going to be the DVD. The HDVD will sell for more. See here what the package is supposed to look like, but on July 18, 2010 it's still a pre-order for about 27 Euros. We are going to wait to see if a Blu-ray product actually gets shipped before posting this.
Naxos USA indicated that EuroArts during 2010 would release in HDVD the Mahler 1st Symphony and the Mahler 4th Symphony performed by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under the baton of Claudio Abbado. They also suggested that there is a long-range plan to release in HDVD all 9 Mahler Symphonies by Abbado and the LSO. So far this is a no-show.
