Neil Fisher, writing in the June 2019 Gramophone (pages 94-95) doesn’t know what to make of this production that “jumps from a kind of clarity to studied disregard for realism or characterisation” and which seems to present many of the roles as Elvira’s daydreams rather than actual people. He suggests that the strong singers here made it work live on stage, but that the effect is confused in the home theater. H’m—this is maybe not a good Puritani HDVD for beginners.
