Richard Osborne, writing in the May 2020 Gramophone at page 94 says this is a good cast as any international house could put together these days, and he goes all out praising Corbelli, Mizzi, Vestri, and Ghagliardo, whom Osborne calls “a Hercules among coloratura basses.” As you can see from the trailer below, Rome Opera had a big budget for this and allowed Emma Dante plenty of freedom in the production such as the 20 would-be brides in white, all armed with pistols which they threaten to use if disappointed. Osborne concludes that this rates “high on entertainment value, as well as being exceptionally well performed.”
