Verdi was probably the only great composer of music who was also a "father" of a county. He supported the Risogimento, or reunification of modern Italy. According to the keepcase information for this title, La battaglia di Legnano is the only opera by Verdi to have a direct bearing on the Risorgimento in that it features patriotic choruses "with which Verdi stirred up opinion in favour of a united Italy."
